JEFFREY A. FRIEDBERG

I HAVE A MAP put out by National Geographic–or, “Nat-G.O.” As they now want to be called.

It’s different from maps we had when I was a kid. When I was a Boy Scout.

They now put right on the map things You are commanded to do:

Pretty cool, ey? Whip all asses into line, right? Get that whole socialist, common denominator thing going.

No–when I was a boy, this was called Common Sense.

common sense

  • n.
Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge.
  • Characterized by common or good sense: as, he took a common-sense view of the question.

We already KNEW what to do. It was common sense.

These days they apparently have to teach it. To their snowflakes, millennials,  New “Americans,” South Americans, Mexicans, Islamists, “dudes” born here– and, like, Everybody.

Or–maybe they had to put it right on the map to cover their own asses. One has to do that these days.

Some creepo-crawler lawyer might litigate on one of the axioms. To a lawyer and an “injured party,” these Nat-G.O. Rules could be more like The Ten Commandments.

You follow them, and you do as commanded, or you die.

At this point–if I could sing–I would sing of an America the way it used to be–before Trump-deranged-Democrats pulled it apart and scattered the still-bleeding pieces.

America the Beautiful

Words by Katharine Lee Bates with melody by Samuel Ward

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness,
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
